What Is In-Cab Advertising? A Practical Guide for Brands in Delhi-NCR
How in-cab advertising works, how it differs from cab branding and billboards, who it suits, and how to plan a campaign on screens inside cabs in Delhi-NCR.

In-cab advertising puts your message inside a cab, where a passenger is seated for the length of a trip, instead of on the outside of the vehicle or on a hoarding beside the road. In Delhi-NCR, where many people spend part of every working day in a cab, that makes the rear seat one of the few advertising spaces with a seated audience and few competing distractions.
This guide explains how in-cab advertising works, how it compares with other formats, and how to plan a campaign.
How in-cab advertising works
The most common in-cab format today is a digital screen mounted inside the vehicle. With Urban Media, the screen sits on the back of the front passenger headrest and faces the rear bench, so it is directly in the line of sight of rear-seat passengers.
A campaign is not a single placement. Several advertisers share the same screens in a scheduled rotation, and each individual ad play runs for up to 30 seconds. You choose:
- How many cabs your campaign runs in
- How many days it runs for
- How many ad plays you want to plan for
The creative is then scheduled across the selected cabs for the agreed period.
In-cab advertising vs cab branding vs billboards
People often use "cab advertising" for several different formats. They work differently:
| Format | Where the ad is | Who sees it | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| In-cab screen | Inside the cabin, facing passengers | Seated rear-seat passengers | During the trip |
| Cab branding (wraps, door panels) | Outside the vehicle | Pedestrians and other road users | A passing glance |
| Roof-top screens | On top of the cab | Road users nearby | A passing glance |
| Billboards and hoardings | Fixed roadside location | Passing traffic | A passing glance |
Exterior formats are seen by more people in passing. In-cab screens trade that breadth for attention: the viewer is seated, facing the screen, and travelling for a predictable period.
Who in-cab advertising suits
In-cab advertising tends to work well for brands that want to reach people during the commute or on the way to make a decision:
- Consumer launches that want repeated exposure across a city
- Real estate, education and healthcare brands targeting NCR residents
- B2B and fintech brands aiming at working professionals
- Retail, restaurants and events promoting a time-bound offer
- Local businesses focused on one part of Delhi-NCR
It is less suited to campaigns that need a guaranteed audience size or precise demographic targeting, because a cab's passengers change trip by trip.
How a campaign is measured
Be careful with how any in-cab media seller describes delivery. Urban Media plans and reports campaigns in ad plays — the number of times your ad is played on a screen. An ad play is a playback event. It is not a unique viewer and it is not a guaranteed impression.
Delivery also depends on real-world conditions: cab operating hours, vehicle and display availability, scheduling and network conditions. Ask any provider which of these their numbers already account for.
What it costs
Urban Media publishes a single reference rate of ₹0.25 per ad play, so the budget is simply the number of ad plays multiplied by the rate. We explain the maths with worked examples in cab advertising cost in Delhi-NCR, and you can estimate your own campaign with the campaign calculator.
Creative tips for in-cab screens
- Lead with the message. Put your brand and the key point in the first few seconds.
- Keep it under 30 seconds. Shorter, clearer ads are easier to follow in a moving vehicle.
- Make it readable without effort. Large text, high contrast and a clear call to action.
- Do not rely on sound alone. Make sure the message still lands if the passenger is not listening closely.
